“A (postcolonial) detective story—exciting, astonishing, and very personal.”
"An interesting documentary that shows how far-reaching family ties can be. Sometimes light-hearted, sometimes melancholic, but always hopeful, this film also paints a picture of an Ecuadorian extended family with German roots who are brought closer together again through this film. Darío Aguirre has created an exciting and compelling documentary that touches the heart."
“Jacinta becomes the most powerful symbol in history. Her disappearance from the records is not just a private gesture, but a metaphor for an entire country in which indigenous memory is often erased from official narratives.”
“It is necessary to question which memories are preserved and which have been silenced.”
“The power of this audiovisual work lies in the fact that it confronts us with the stories we have accepted without question and with the silence we maintain.”
“The documentary film strikes a harpoon blow right into the heart of Ecuadorian mestizos.”
Darío embarks on a journey following in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather, the German explorer Theodor Wolf, a famous figure in Ecuador but almost forgotten in his homeland. What begins as a tribute to his family develops into an examination of colonial heritage and questions the construction of memory.
Between Ecuador and Germany, Darío encounters unexpected twists and turns that shake his reality and lead him to search for the truth behind the story he has been told. A film about pride, forgetting, and the stories that make us who we believe ourselves to be.

News
The film explores the question of how history is created—in the stories of a family, a country, a continent. What remains when memories fade or truths are suppressed? My grandmother's dementia becomes a metaphor for collective forgetting and at the same time opens up a space for reflection: on origin and memory, truth and invention—and on who writes our history
