Biography
Darío Aguirre is a recognized filmmaker in the German and international documentary film scene. His films have been invited to international film festivals such as Santa Barbara, Toulouse, Nyon, Cartagena, Malaga and the Berlinale. They are shown in cinemas in Germany, Switzerland and Ecuador and broadcast by television stations all over the world. He regularly gives lectures and seminars at universities such as the University of Cologne, the University of Bielefeld, the University of Hamburg and the HfbK Hamburg as well as at the UARTES in Ecuador and the EICTV Cuba. He also advises documentary film projects and is part of selection committees and juries at festivals. In 2020, he founded the production company Tiempo Filmproduktion in Hamburg.
Darío Aguirre was born in Guayaquil/Ecuador. He initially devoted himself to painting, music and performance and took part in art projects in Ecuador. He later moved to Germany and studied Visual Communication and Media at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg under Gerd Roscher and Wim Wenders. From 2004-2013 he was co-director of the short film festival “ambulart” in Ecuador, Mexico and Germany. During his studies, he received a scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and was awarded the DAAD Prize for Artistic Achievement and Social Impulse at the University of Fine Arts.
